World Experience II
Throughout the year, students will examine the key events that have shaped our current value systems, explore the impact of changes in economics and technology, explore the evolution of political and societal systems, and investigate the impact of global interactions. Students will learn about how the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment changed the world forever and how these ideas led to world changes that affect us today. Students will explore major political, social, and economic changes from the 1700s to current day; including the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution and other revolutionary changes around the globe. Students will understand the events that led to World War I and World War II and discuss how these events from the past are affect our daily lives. This will be an exciting journey!
Additionally, this course will focus on communication skills. Students will be exposed to reading and writing complex text, preparing and making presentations, and mastering the mechanics of gathering, organizing and effectively writing about historical events. This Empowering process will be both engaging and enlightening.
United States History I
This course will review how the European countries desires for expansion led to the colonization of the Americas. The conflicts led to the French and Indian war, also known as the 7 Years War, which created enormous tensions between England and the English colonies.Students will research, discuss, and debate the circumstances that led to the Revolutionary War, the challenges facing a new nation, and the struggles for this nation to survive. Students will evaluate the tensions within the new nation and how this led to the Civil War and how the nation rebuilt itself following this great struggle. Lastly students will investigate the many different struggles and opportunities that resulted from industrialization.
One of the major opportunities in studying history is being able to see the leadership styles of many people in different times and different places. This provides the opportunity to help students develop develop key leadership skills such as Creating a Vision, Communicating this Vision, Positioning to make this Vision happen, and Controlling the self to make things happen. The bottom line is that we have the opportunity to build leaders!
