U.S. History 1
This course will cover the beginning of the United States from the origins of the European conquests to the foundations of conflict between the colonists and England resulting from the French and Indian (7 Years War) war. Students will learn how this led to the stressors which resulted in the Revolutionary War, the challenges of starting a new republic, and how this eventually led to the splitting of a nation through the great Civil War. Students will review the issues associated with rebuilding a nation after being torn apart and how this industrialization changed the way the people in the country lived.
There will be a focus on developing effective communication skills. Students will practice researching and gaining understanding behind the issues that faced this new country and how these are the same issues that America faces every day in modern life.
World History
Throughout the year, students will examine the key events that have shaped our current value systems, explore the impact of changes in economics and technology, explore the evolution of political and societal systems, and investigate the impact of global interactions. Students will learn about how the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment changed the world forever and how these ideas led to world changes that affect us today. Students will explore major political, social, and economic changes from the 1700s to current day; including the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution and other revolutionary changes around the globe and throughout time. Students will understand the events that led to World War I and World War II and discuss how these events from the past are affect our daily lives. This will be an exciting journey!
Additionally, this course will focus on communication skills. Students will be exposed to reading and writing complex text, preparing and making presentations, and mastering the mechanics of gathering, organizing and effectively writing about historical events. This Empowering process will be both engaging and enlightening.
